Yesterday evening I had the opportunity to photograph
The Sheepdogs at
Rogers Arena as part of my ongoing collaboration with
Patrick Stark on his documentary
One Life No Regrets. The band has had a whirlwind summer after winning
Rolling Stone magazine's "
Choose the Cover" competition, and are now touring as the opening act on the Canadian leg of the
Kings of Leon tour.
For the interview, we sat down with lead singer
Ewan Currie and bass player
Ryan Gullen who were fantastic, and gave us insight into their meteoric rise from humble beginnings in
Saskatoon. As a huge fan of '70s classic rock, I must say, their sound is right up my alley.
After the interview, I had less than five minutes to shoot a couple of portraits before the band went on stage. According to my metadata, I made my first test exposure at 6:56:27 and my last portrait at 6:58:12 officially making it my shortest portrait session ever at 1 minute 45 seconds. Needless to say, I thought I wouldn't have anything usable, but under the circumstances I was pleasantly surprised.
